Mr. Blake is such a cutie! He absolutely adores his mama and would not take his eyes off of her! We had so much fun and made it a quick session! I loved how expressive this kid is, he has such cute little feet that get so excited.
Styling your family’s session can be so frustrating. I both love and dread trying to decide what to make my family wear for our annual family pictures. I’ve been doing pictures for a long time, and I’ve figured out a few things that help to make it easier and beautiful.
To help you out, here’s a sample of the style guide I send out to my clients to help them figure out the ever challenging question of “What should we wear?!”
Oh Miss Stella! Talk about one adorable and genius little girl – who can count to ten! She really is an adorable doll -like little girl, with the most beautiful blue eyes. She didn’t appreciate her parents help in making a mess with her cake – she was content to lick, one finger at a time. I can’t wait to see what growth she makes in this next year!
Newborn safety during a session is my number one priority. These little people are so fragile and they can move so quickly. What is so critical to understand is often the pictures you see on Pinterest of babies hanging from things, or perched on stuff are composite images. Meaning, that someone should be holding up or onto that baby at all times. Several shots are taken and merged together to create that perfect seamless portrait.
Even simple looking portraits can require composites. Simply because a newborn’s head is a good portion of their entire body weight. That makes them very top heavy, in addition they do not have the muscle strength to hold their own head up. They also have something called the Moro or startle reflex (that motion they make when they startle.) It’s important to always have someone sitting right next to that new baby at all times. I love using parents to help during the newborn sessions. They get to be apart of the process of creating these priceless memories. The pictures we take are priceless, but your child is infinitely more priceless.
Oh sweet Kapri, I am so thrilled you FINALLY arrived! Your poor mama was so ready for you to come, but you decided to wait an extra week. I don’t know how much more abuse her ribs could take. You are so lucky to have such amazing parents. They absolutely adore every single thing about you. You are such a miracle for them. You know who your mama is, and I am 100% certain you are going to be a daddy’s girl through and through. You can see how much you are loved in their eyes.
You definitely made us work really hard for these portraits. You didn’t like your legs swaddled, or your hands either. You were completely worth all the effort. There is nothing better for a child to see than pictures of themselves displayed in their home that so clearly shows how much they are loved. You, little Miss Kapri, are loved by so many!
This has to be one of my most favorite sessions ever! This beautiful family was so fun and so beautiful. Poor dad is out numbered with four gorgeous daughters and a beautiful wife. We explored, danced, smiled, laughed and even pulled out the magic phone to capture attention for a moment. Thank you McInelly family for a wonderful time and some beautiful pictures!
Meet Mr. Max. His mama is a good friend of mine, who also happens to be a photographer. When she had Max about a month ago I asked if I could take a few pictures for fun. It was my first time setting everything up with my studio equipment. Max was awesome, and we got some great pictures. Thanks Penny for letting me practice and coming over so I could hold Max for three hours! :)
Meet beautiful baby Rachel. I was really excited when her mom called me. I think taking newborn pictures is one of my most favorite pictures to capture. Newborns are also very challenging, but the pictures are so priceless because they grow so fast. Miss Rachel looked like a little doll, she was so sweet, and has three older siblings who all love her a ton!
These guys were so much fun to hang out with! They have the cutest kids! Mom looked way too good – especially since her new baby was only 2 months old! It’s not fair I tell you! I had so much fun with them and I took way too many pictures! I have no idea what she’s going to do with all of them!
If you are baby hungry I really suggest not looking at these pictures! I was so lucky to spend several hours with this handsome little man and his gorgeous mommy. It was so much fun and I LOVE newborns. He was so awesome – awake for the first part of the session and then totally slept so well for us for the rest. He’s perfect!
